SRMT Health Services reports 72.7% vaccination rate

AKWESASNE — Saint Regis Mohawk Health Services reported a slight increase in the overall immunization rate for the southern part of the Akwesasne community. They report a 0.1% increase since their last report on Kentenha/October 17, 2022 — bringing the overall vaccination rate to 72.7%. The rate reflects people who received their first round of two injections of a COVID-19 vaccine.

There was no change in the vaccination rate for the age group 6 months to 4 years or in those aged 12 or older. The 5-11 age group, however, saw a slight increase of 0.7%, as five (5) more people received their first two doses of the vaccine.

Health Services is pleased that 184 additional people aged 18 or older have chosen to complete their series of vaccinations by receiving the second booster. They continue to ask all people to please boost your immunity against COVID-19 by getting your full round of vaccines.

The first round of vaccinations (two initial doses) of the COVID-19 vaccine continues to be available for people ages 6 months and older each Wednesday from 9:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. at the Tribal Clinic, located at 404 State Route 37 Individuals are requested call ahead to make an appointment by dialing (518) 358-3141.

The monovalent booster (first booster) is available for people age 5 or older who have received their initial two doses of the vaccine, while the bivalent booster (second booster) is available for people age 12 or older who have received their first reminder. at least four (4) months ago. The Pfizer bivalent vaccine is for people 12 years of age or older, while the Moderna bivalent vaccine is for customers 18 years of age or older.

Health Services urges individuals to please complete their series of vaccinations, in particular the bivalent booster which now offers better protection against COVID-19. It contains an mRNA component that has attributes common to omicron BA.4 and BA.5 variants.

Individuals are encouraged to download the new Health Services app for their smartphone or other device to stay up to date on COVID-19. The “Saint Regis Mohawk Tribe” app can be downloaded from the Apple Store or Google Play and includes a clinic directory, health videos, tribal news and events, job opportunities, a quick link to the tribal member portal and other important information.
