AKWESASNE (Kentenha/October 17, 2022) — Saint Regis Mohawk Health Services reported an overall immunization rate of 72.6%, an increase of 3.6% since their last report on Seskeha /August 10e. The updated rate reflects people who received their first round of two injections of a COVID-19 vaccine.

The largest increase in vaccinations was among people aged 18 or older, who increased by 4.4%. This age group saw 256 additional community members receive their first dose of a COVID-19 vaccine. The age group also saw 109 others receive their first booster (Monovalent Booster) and 122 others receive their second booster (Bivalent Booster).

The Monovalent Booster is available for those aged 5 or older, while the Dual Booster is for customers aged 12 or older who received their first booster at least four (4) months ago. Individuals can receive either booster vaccine at their walk-in vaccination clinic held every Wednesday at the Tribal Clinic, located at 404 State Route 37 in Akwesasne.

Due to lack of staff, Wednesday October 19e The walk-in COVID-19 vaccination clinic will be cancelled. Please call (518) 358-3142 if you would like to schedule your vaccination for Wednesday, October 26e.

Health departments are urging eligible people to get the vaccine, especially the bivalent booster, because it contains an mRNA component that has attributes common to the omicron BA.4 and BA.5 variants and provides better protection. The Tribal Clinic offers the bivalent Pfizer vaccine for people age 12 or older, while the bivalent Moderna vaccine is available for clients age 18 or older.

Individuals are encouraged to download the new Health Services app for their smartphone or other device to stay up to date on COVID-19. The “Saint Regis Mohawk Tribe” app can be downloaded from the Apple Store or Google Play and includes a clinic directory, health videos, tribal news and events, job opportunities, a quick link to the tribal member portal and other important information.
