OPD, health services may be affected at MY Hospital and others

Indore (Madhya Pradesh): If you are planning to attend the OPD at Maharaja Yeshwantrao Hospital or any Associated Hospital of Mahatma Gandhi Memorial Medical College on Tuesday, reschedule your plan.

Professors of medicine at MGM Medical College will go on strike on Nov. 22 to protest the proposed transfer of the top job in government medical colleges to bureaucrats. Not only teaching work, but OPD and other routine medical services will also be affected as the Association of Junior Physicians, Association of Nurses and other staff have lent their support to the medical teachers and will join the strike. However, emergency services and autopsy services will not be affected.

Medical professors and staff wore black bands during work Monday to register their protest.

The medical faculty associations of the 13 medical schools oppose the assignment of an assistant collector or an SDM-level officer above the dean of medical schools. “We oppose the appointment of administrative heads in medical schools. The government plans to bring the proposal to a Cabinet meeting on Tuesday. We will step up our protest if the government adopts such a proposal,” Madhya Pradesh Association of Professors of Medicine President Dr Arvind Ghanghoria said in a press statement. “We are also asking the Chief Minister and the Minister of Medical Education for time to discuss the matter as we will have no choice but to strike,” Dr Ghanghoria added.
