MoPH honors contributors to accreditation of public health services in Qatar

The Ministry of Public Health (MoPH) held an awards ceremony to honor the participants in the accreditation of public health services in Qatar.
The MoPH has been accredited by the Public Health Accreditation Board (PHAB), USA. The award ceremony was organized under the sponsorship of the Ministry of Public Health and led by Dr. Salih al-Marri, Deputy Minister of Health Affairs and Chairman of the Public Health Committee.
Qatar is the first country in the region to receive such accreditation outside the United States. This accreditation confirms that public health principles and guidelines in Qatar are implemented in accordance with the best international standards.
Sheikh Dr Mohamed al-Thani, Director of MoPH’s Department of Public Health, said: “Success requires a lot of hard work as well as support. We have used both to gain accreditation for our public health services in Qatar and finally MoPH is accredited for five years by the Public Health Accreditation Board (PHAB), USA. Our commitment to being accredited will not end after the Council decision of August 18, 2022. This is for the long term. We are committed to making accreditation requirements an integral part of our daily work.
“In its approach to public health, the MoPH is guided by a shared vision with all key partners in the health and non-health sectors to ensure the health and well-being of all of us in all communities where we and our children are born and live, where we grow up, we play, we learn and study, we work and we have access to transport and health services.Therefore, the MoPH uses interventions to prevent disease, protect and promote health , such as health education, to help individuals protect their own health and that of their families,” added Sheikh Dr Mohamed.
Dr Mariam Alabdulmalik, Chief Executive Officer of the Primary Health Care Corporation (PHCC), who joined online, said: “It is a source of pride for the Primary Health Care Corporation to have been part of the team supporting MoPH to achieve PHAB international accreditation of public health services in Qatar. This recognition reflects our unwavering commitment to work in close partnership across the healthcare sector to deliver high quality healthcare services in Qatar. This is a demonstration of the national initiative to improve the quality of care and healthcare process in Qatar and is a testament to the patient-centric approach that our services uphold.
Dr Mounir Soussi, Accreditation Coordinator, added: “Since the beginning of our accreditation journey, the process has improved public health preparedness in Qatar, especially as we prepare for the World Cup. FIFA Qatar 2022, building and improving the capacity and overall capacity of the Ministry of Public Health, improving quality efforts, using evidence and data to guide decisions and building credibility with all stakeholders.
The ceremony was attended by guests from MoPH, Hamad Medical Corporation, PHCC, Qatar University, Weill Cornell Medicine-Qatar, Qatar Diabetes Association, Qatar Cancer Society and members of the Family Health Advisory Taskforce who represent the public.
