Indian Health Services Network Expands Telemedicine Alliance with Avel eCare

The federal agency is entering into a new multi-year partnership with Avel eCare with additional telemedicine services to improve the health of tribal communities and ensure access to care in rural areas.

SIOUX FALLS, SD, August 4, 2022 /PRNewswire/ — Avel eCare today announced that it has entered into a new strategic partnership with Indian Health Services (IHS), a department of the US Department of Health and Human Services (DHHS). This partnership enables Avel eCare to provide telemedicine services to more than 145,000 Native Americans and Alaska Natives in the rural Midwest health network for the next five years and expands the existing program to include forensic examinations in sexual assault cases (eSANE) and psychiatric support for emergency services. in the Great Plains region.

More than half of the Native American population lives in rural areas, and statistics show that Native Americans have a life expectancy 5.5 years younger than average.

Avel eCare began its relationship with IHS in 2017 when the telemedicine provider was awarded a contract to provide specialty clinic services to reservations in the Great Plains region, which includes Nebraska, North Dakotaand South Dakota. In 2019, the partnership extended to Billing area on the other side Montana and Wyoming.

Over the past five years, Avel eCare providers have scheduled more than 50,000 appointments, transforming the delivery of care to Native American patients and helping to restore health equity in the process.
