Health services in UP in shambles: Akhilesh

Painting a bleak picture for Uttar Pradesh’s health services, National Chairman of the Samajwadi Party and former Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav said the state’s health services had become miserable under the rule of the Bharatiya Janata Party. , following which people ran from pillar to post to get treatment.

“Under the Samajwadi Party regime, expensive machines were purchased which are now gathering dust because they have ceased to function due to lack of maintenance. Even companies refused to fix them,” Yadav said when interacting with reporters here on Saturday.

He said if the BJP government had maintained the health infrastructure of the Samajwadi Party regime, many lives would have been saved.

“The state health minister is making drama for the cameras. He is raiding hospitals and claiming he has found fault and the same will be rectified. Whose fault is it ? What government has been there for the last five years? If he finds faults in drug procurement and infrastructure, it clearly shows that the previous government did not work,” Yadav said.

He said the government’s apathy was evident from the fact that the medical university named after former prime minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee was run from the 9th floor of the Ram Manohar Lohia Institute of Medical Sciences established under the Samajwadi Party regime.

“It shows how serious the BJP government is about the treatment of its leader and the public,” the SP leader said.

Yadav said that under the Samajwadi Party government, the free treatment service was provided on a one-rupee prescription and there was a free treatment service for serious kidney, liver and heart disease and cancer.

“In the current government, treatment has become expensive. Profits are drawn from the poor. The service of Ambulances 108 and 102 was destroyed. Money is asked from patients to take them to hospital,” he alleged.

Referring to the chief minister’s assertion that health services were provided at district level, Yadav asked if district hospitals were good, why patients were rushing to hospitals in Lucknow.

“They come to Lucknow because patients in the districts are dying without medicine or treatment. They are not getting proper treatment,” he said.
