BHF wins seal of approval for reliable health information

We have been awarded the PIF TICK – the UK’s only quality label for health information.

The PIF TICK, run by the Patient Information Forum, is the only assessed quality mark for trusted print and online health information in the UK.

To earn the PIF TICK, members must show they meet 10 key steps, including that health information is evidence-based, jargon-free, and easy to use and understand.

The PIF TICK brand recognizes us as a trusted source of health information for the 7.6 million people living with heart and circulatory conditions across the UK and their loved ones.

From explanations of complicated medical terms to expert nutrition and lifestyle advice, we aim to provide a one-stop-shop for heart health information.

When the pandemic started, reliable and accurate health information was no longer needed. Over the past 12 months, the Information Support section of our website has had 18.6 million users and over 29 million unique page views, a record year for traffic.

This shows how crucial it is for us to provide clarity and support to people living with heart and circulatory issues throughout the pandemic and beyond.

Reliable information

Amy Corkery, our Patient and Professional Information Editor, said: “We are delighted that our health information has been awarded the PIF TICK, a testament to the quality of our extensive library of content.

“With misinformation rampant online, it is essential that people with heart and circulatory conditions and their loved ones can easily access reliable and accurate information when they need it, and that has never been truer. than during the pandemic.

“This quality mark is a quick and easy way to assure people that our health information is trustworthy, ensuring it can be a lifeline for them in uncertain times.”

The Patient Information Forum launched the PIF TICK program in 2020, launching a website the following year to educate PIF TICK accredited members and help people find reliable health information.

The site also includes guides on topics such as spotting fake health information and understanding evidence.

PIF TICK Director Dan Wills said: “We are delighted to welcome the BHF to our ever-growing community of accredited PIF TICK members. Accurate, accessible and evidence-based information is essential to increase patient empowerment and improve health outcomes.
