Alberta Health Services rescinds COVID-19 visitation policy

Visitor restrictions related to COVID-19 that were currently in place at Alberta Health Services (AHS) facilities, including acute care, ambulatory care, urgent care and care emergency, have been officially cancelled.

COVID-19 visitor restrictions that were currently in place at Alberta Health Services (AHS) facilities, including acute care, ambulatory care, urgent care and urgent care sites , have been officially canceled, according to an AHS press release issued on July 20.

There will no longer be a limit to the number of visitors or family/support members allowed for each patient, read the press release.

The policy was initially in place to reduce the spread of COVID-19. To accomplish this, AHS sites have limited the number of visitors and family/support members allowed in health facilities.

“While these limits were necessary to reduce the risk of transmission of COVID-19, we understand how difficult they have been for patients and their families,” AHS said in a press release.

Although most sites offer free access to visitors and family members/support persons, it is important to keep in mind that some healthcare facilities may have to impose capacity limits due to vulnerability. patients receiving care or in the event of COVID-19. outbreak in the facility.

Additionally, there may also be limits on the number of people who can be in a designated area at one time in order to maintain physical distancing requirements, according to the AHS press release.

“If you plan to come [a] site to see a patient, speak with the site or patient care team beforehand to find out if any access limits are in place,” AHS suggested, according to the press release.

AHS also said the only change to the policy is the number of visitors allowed at a given facility. People visiting AHS sites should continue to wear masks, perform COVID-19 entry screening, stay physically distant from other visitors, and practice hand hygiene. This is due to the vulnerable environments that are present in healthcare facilities.
